The 2017 season is fast approaching and the Lions have been hard at work getting ready to take the field. The current roster is comprised of 25 seniors, 22 juniors, 28 sophomores, and 34 new freshmen for a total of 109 total players in the program. Overall the 2017 team will be a veteran group with 16 returning letter winners.
The incoming team continues the weight room tradition established in recent years and will be among the strongest in school history when they hit the field in August. As of May, the team has 21 players in the “500 Club” (combined bench and squat max), 21 players in the “600 Club”, and 7 players in the “700 Club”. With a total of 49 out of 75 varsity players in one of the groups, this means a record 65% of the team is currently represented.
Our team has been hard at work in the community as well this spring in celebration of our May initiatives. On May 6th our team spread out around the New Berlin community to clean the yards of senior citizens who needed a helping hand. On May 13th we added some muscle to the New Berlin community food drive for what is their biggest day of the years. And on May 19th, some of our leaders and captains bowled with elementary school kids from the area in an effort to “strike out” bullying. I’m proud to coach a group of boys who are so willing to get involved and give their time to others!
We have a great summer ahead including our annual golf outing, a number of summer league games, 5 mini-camp practices in July, and our annual tailgate party in August. I hope to see many of you out at these events and also out at a game this fall!
Thanks for your continued support of our team and our football program,
